SIMPLE ALGEBRA WITH A VARIABLE QUANTITY REPRESENTED BY A LETTER
Since my last post we have completed the last of Doman’s suggestions – equations with a variable. Following his suggestion included in the book „How to Teach Your Baby Math,” I replaced the letter “x” commonly used as a variable with the letter “y.” This was necessary because the letter “x” is similar to the multiplication sign and this may confuse a baby.

WE HAVE OFFICIALLY COMPLETED ALL THE SIGHT WORDS FLASHCARDS
In the previous post I said that I had started doing less and less daily “sessions,” which also means having less and less cards per day. After a few days we were left with 3 sets, 5 cards in each instead of our usual 4 sets. I decided we would manage to do these although nothing had changed in Maja’s attitude.

We have completed the following two stages:
A 13-MONTH-OLD BABY – VOCABULARY
Yeah….a 13-month-old baby and we have a whole set of new words. It seems bilingualism doesn’t cause a speech delay. I have already made a list of Maja’s first words which is to be found here.
To tell you the truth, my baby speaks…”Chinese” most of the time: words, sentences and even whole monologues in her own language. We often have a chit-chat during which I pretend I understand her and give her answers in English. Then, she replies in her own language.
LEARNING THROUGH PLAY WITH THE DOMAN METHOD
I have read three books by Glenn Doman and I can summarize his method this way: we show 5 word cards as quickly as possible and we praise a child loudly expressing a sincere joy while doing this. This is what one session looks like. It doesn’t matter if we have 5 reading cards or maths cards or bits of intelligence cards for developing encyclopedic knowledge.
WHY NOW AND NOT EARLIER?
I must admit that Polish reading cards were not on my mind at all when I was buying maths and English reading cards. It just happened that maths cards came with the Polish reading cards. This was my incentive to introduce Doman’s reading programme also in Polish – my native language.
This blog post is quite special because it’s Maja’s birthday today. And today is the day when we start another step in our mathematical adventure: comparing quantities.
FIRST WORDS – DOES BILINGUALISM CAUSE SPEECH DELAY?
I have heard many times that bilingual children start speaking later than their monolingual peers. On the other hand, Doman claims that showing word cards to kids speeds up their speech development.
